Note on Copulation

Lise found two frogs thus united in our garden.  She wanted to show me how pretty they were.  I don’t know if all animals which reproduce by copulation (fish do not, for instance) are able to get from sex what humans can.  Horses and walruses, who get it done with great dispatch don’t seem to feel the earth move the way humans think they themselves do.  On the other hand, creatures that cling together in congress for long periods of time, like dragonflies and frogs, might be feeding on wave after wave of prime natural morphine, having superior illusions of oneness with things.  It would be nice to know for certain.
