A CHILD, ONE DAY OLD

You are a peaceable soul.  Your moments are

gentle.  You can patiently wait

for the time when the faces come into focus.

You will re-play the lollopy wallpaper creatures

until you might wish them away.  Later on

you will use them to make music or a proof

a theory’s wrong, yet will show no conceit.

You will be strong, a gentle giant, adept

on the field, good at contact, going along

with the jovial script of the team yet distanced

from too much enthusiasm.  A storyteller

and popular at parties.  You will have passions.

You will speak many tongues and be useful.
